Key Components
Main Boom / Cantilever : Extends out over the water to reach across the width of docked ships; can be raised vertically when ships are berthing or passing.
Trolley: Rides back and forth along the rails of the main boom to transfer cargo horizontally.
Spreader : A specialized handling tool suspended from the trolley that grips and locks onto container corner castings using twistlocks.
Gantry Frame & Legs : Supports the entire upper structure and travels on rail tracks running parallel to the quayside.
Operator Cabin : Located on the trolley or fixed structure, though many modern terminals use remote-control operation rooms.
